When I went to the Orange County Fair to see Alton Brown last year, I took it upon myself to take as many pictures of signs promoting fried foods or foods on a stick as I could find.
Enjoy! Just feel your arteries hardening!

i'm surprise the poster for sausage on a stick isn't banned in boston.

I love that the sausage-on-a-stick is billed as "low carb", because we all know that SAUSAGE is totally a diet food.

In the 2nd grade, my nickname was Twinkie Queen because I loved the little lard-filled desserts like it was nobody's business. So, while I haven't had a Twinkie in years, I'm still hardly one to recoil at the idea of ingesting one. HOWEVER, the fact that there were THREE signs promoting DEEP FRIED TWINKIES?!?!? Wha?!? I've never heard of such a thing. Is deep-frying Twinkies a common act in the OC? Really, I'm having a difficult time wrapping my mind around this atrocity.

Hee! This is an awesome photo retrospective. Thing is, using "on a stick" as a modifier for any kind of comestible just makes me giggle uncontrollably.
That being said, I'd like to place an order for delivery of fried zucchini, and a half-dozen cream puffs on sticks.

Oh, I've heard of deep-fried twinkies. I'm not ashamed to admit I dream of trying one someday. And also? Tracking Things on Sticks is one of my favorite fair activities, too!

Let the record show that I have had both deep-fried Oreos and deep-fried Twinkies (not at the same time, mind you), and they are DELICIOUS. Oh my GOD. The Twinkie I had was served with a strawberry sauce, and it was SO GOOD. However, it was not served on a stick.
I should also state that I didn't include the picture of the giant smoked turkey leg I ate that day. Unfortunately, there was no one around me to take a funny photo of me with the big drumstick, so my photo is just of the leg on the plate.

I've found that just about everything is more delicious on a stick, and now I'm craving a twinkie with strawberry sauce.

Such FILTH! That sausage on a stick is so dirty.

WOW! You have a whole "on a stick" chapter for your future coffee table photo book about food. You take great food pictures! love it!!

Hee. The Sausage on a Stick poster is totally vulgar. When I took the picture, this couple next to me twittered with shocked laughter over how, uh, sausage-y it is. Heh.
Natalie: I believe deep-fried anything is a state fair specialty not limited to the OC. :)

I just still can't get over how dirty that is. I would be clutching my pearls, if I had any.

Would I be out of line if I pointed out that the ghosted image of the carousel behind the, ahem, sausage could pass as sphincter like iconography?
Yes, I would be out of line.
What if I had "Doin' da butt, mercy, mercy" runnin' through my head as I came up with that filth?
Way out of line?
Okay, thanks.

Catherine, I'm sure you're right. I haven't been to a state fair in a while, unfortunately, so my knowledge of the deep-fried foods served there is minimal. BUT, I vow to try a deep-fried Twinkie soon. My reign as Twinkie Queen is not over yet!

Oh, JASON.
That said, hee.

You might not remember that I worked at Hot Dog on a Stick in high school (and so did Amy Y.!). Puente Hills Mall, represent!
Anyhow, just wondering where the Hot Dog on a Stick photo is. They are IN LOVE with county fairs, and can't imagine they weren't there, pimpin out the goods! (Or maybe Cathy just forgot?)
