Friday Night Lights: Where Have I Been?

My friend Heathyr has gone on and on to me about how amazing Friday Night Lights is ("Oh my God, you will cry and cry" is a sentence she has said more than once in reference to it), but for some reason I never watched the show. Don't ask - I can't answer the question. What I knew is of the show is that hot hot hot Kyle Chandler stars in it. (Hello? Can I get a Homefront shout-out up in here?)

Anywho, because I knew Heathyr would appreciate it more than anyone, last night I took her to an event at the Academy. We watched the episode set to air tonight and guess what? I cried and cried. Okay, it was more like tears welling up as I can't sob in public unless under extreme duress, but that happened at least twice, so that counts. GodDAMN, this is a good show. Wait - "good" doesn't even cover it. It's better than that, it's bigger than that. It's the kind of TV show that when an episode comes to its conclusion, you don't want it to end; at least that is how I felt after watching it last night. I wanted more! Sniff. This is the TV show I've always wanted but didn't know it.

Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to watching FNL's first season on DVD. Heathyr said it best last night when she said she was a little jealous of me because I get to experience what she describes as "a perfect season" for the first time. I'll make sure to keep a box of tissues at the ready.

A Banner Day

[Secondary Title: Sometimes Work Does Not Suck]

As much as I complain about work and how I am neither inspired nor challenged, I have days like yesterday that make up for (almost) everything.

Exhibit #1:

Just when you thought I wasn't going to post about So You Think You Can Dance anymore, it's BENJI!  With ME!  I kind of hate how psychotic I look in this picture, but I was so excited, y'all, you have no idea.  Well, some of you fine people will

What?  A second picture with Benji?  Don't mind if I do!  Sadly, I could not go to the show (long story), which leads me to...

Exhibit #2:

YAY!  I'm on the field and everything!  Again, not the best picture of me (Um, Yesterday's Hair?  We need to talk.), but still.  USC did me proud by beating Nebraska 28-10 - again, YAY!

Eagle-eyed readers may notice that I am wearing different outfits in these pictures.  Yes, I changed clothes between events.  What of it?  Also, please don't make fun of how my pink purse doesn't match.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

My computer is not dead!  It is in fact very much alive - hooray!  I am no longer living like an animal!

SUCH relief.

Addendum: Okay, so the computer does still need some fixing.  At least it's not really most sincerely dead, right?

Addendum #2: Keeping in line with my Wizard of Oz theme, well, bust my buttons!  I won't have to pay for repairing the computer.  The Big Computer Company Which Used To Have Those Ads With That Young Blond Dude is fixing it for free.  Joy.

At Long Last Victory!

After what felt like the longest drought in trivia victories EVER, the great team known this week as It's Not The Heat, It's The Humidity, and which consisted of Nara, Beverly, Aidan, and myself, finally walked away with a win last night!  WOOOOOO!

Oh, sweet, sweet success - how I have missed you and your life-affirming and endorphin-elevating goodness.  Sigh.

I always look forward to Carrie Fisher's contributions to the New York Times Magazine.  Her travelogues are witty (in her last piece on Acapulco, she wrote of her family's security guard, a man with the name of Bacca who was nicknamed Chewie in the military.  Chewbacca.  [Ha!]  And, for the record, she said he could call her Leia, and no, he did not.  [Aw!]) and full of enough intriguing little details that make me want jump on the next plane to anywhere.

So, friends, please enjoy Ms. Fisher's latest piece on Tokyo.
