Hey everyone! Look who is not dead! I would be posting daily as I have since the beginning of this blog, but right now I've been bogged down by lots of other things and I sadly let my writing here lapse. But no more! I still have to finish that travelogue even though it's been almost six months since Budapest and Prague, and I want to finish it because it will be the way I can remember the trip if I want to reflect on where we were, say, on New Year's Day, plus I need to finish it as I have my Hawaii trip coming up in a month (YAY!) and I want to write about that, too. I've taken lots of food pictures, got to enjoy a Dodger game from a suite (fancy!), and most recently, visited my nieces last week. Look at how big they are!
Niece #1 is SO SMART. She is learning how to add and can write her name now, which is about the cutest thing I've ever seen. People say she looks like me, but she's really the Asian version of my brother-in-law. For those who are curious, she will be four (!) in July.
Isn't Niece #2 adorable? I cannot believe how much she has changed; she's no longer a baby (even though I still call her that) but rather a full-grown toddler, and a really funny one at that. This little one (who is the Caucasian version of my sister, I swear) will be two in August.
This picture cracks me up. Niece #2 looks so fresh-faced and cute with her giant cup of apple juice, and I look so tired with the bags under my eyes. Okay, it's the angle, I know, BUT STILL.
More later from me tomorrow! Thanks for tuning in!
Overheard in Target a few weeks ago:
Grandmother to her grandchildren: It's okay to mix black and brown. If you have a brown belt, it's okay to wear black shoes, or vice versa.
I had to restrain myself from swooping into their conversation like a fashion-conscious bat out of hell.
I think you all know how I feel about It's A Small World, so it won't surprise you that I am livid over Disney's plans to add ACTUAL DISNEY CHARACTERS to the ride. Livid, I say, LIVID! Just WHY?! Why fix what isn't broken? It's one of the few rides that doesn't have built-in Disney branding!
Excuse me while I go protest on Harbor Boulevard. (Okay, not really, but I am there IN SPIRIT.) Who's with me?
It's Leap Day, everyone! I...guess you're supposed to do something big, right? Take the big "leap" as it were, at least according to various features I've seen on my TV?
I don't know what you're going to do today, but I'm using this as an excuse to post the following photo from one of my favorite movie musicals EVER that just happens to be directed by John Huston. Yes, THAT John Huston:
And this post would really be incomplete without a shot of this:
Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks? Yes, please!
Today marks the one-year anniversary since I bought Ripley! Twelve months, two trips to Vegas, countless french fry runs and an embarrassing number of car karoake (car-eaoke?) moments later, she's still completely awesome and doesn't look a day over nine months old. Further proof of her greatness: last week I got 480 miles out of one tank! Take THAT, Other Cars!
Just in case you were wondering, this year I have driven over 27,000 miles. Twenty-seven THOUSAND. I know. I KNOW.
(Note: the red velvet cupcake in the photo is from Hotcakes Bakes, a lovely little bakery in Culver City which I have written about here. I took the photo in front of the store, too. I would have lit the candle but the cars were whizzing by and I was certain the flame would have died before it even had a chance.)
It's not really the end of February, is it? IS IT?!
AAUGH.
Happy Chinese New Year! It's the Year of the Rat!
Give It To Me (feat. Justin Timberlake & Nelly Furtado)
Timbaland: Shock Value
The song is months old but I finally heard it while in Europe and I CANNOT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.
Apologize (feat. OneRepublic)
Timbaland: Shock Value
Again, I heard this song in Europe and I'm totally addicted to it. God.
David Michaelis: Schulz and Peanuts: A Biography
I got this book for Christmas. As a lifelong Peanuts fan, I can't wait to read it.
Heather Cocks: Go Fug Yourself: The Fug Awards
My girlfriends' book! I'm SO excited for them!
